Active Inclusion Program

all-abilities funding

Gold Coast Recreation & Sport, in collaboration with The Active & Healthy Alliance Gold Coast, have begun our endeavour to seek out local communities, organisations and businesses who want to promote the inclusion of people with disabilities (PWD) through sport, fitness, wellness and recreation.

The Active Inclusion Program is designed to empower Gold Coast organisations within these industries with mentoring and investment, developing sustainable inclusion programs for people with disabilities.

There will be opportunity to build and encourage active inclusion within mainstream and everyday business practices through the support of:

  1. Mentoring, including a Community of Practice
  2. Targeted advice
  3. Resources
  4. Series of workshops

The goal is to leave a legacy within local organisations, while providing practical strategies to support maintenance of inclusive practices. This should ensure the promotion and implementation of the Active Inclusion Program will continue well into the future.

In addition, we also have an opportunity for seed funding (a small financial investment into developing an idea) for local sports clubs, fitness business or wellness organisations. Clubs/businesses will be selected by demonstrating their passion for inclusion of PWD to receive funding. The successful applicants will be supported on their inclusion journey every step of the way and be assisted with any issues that may arise. At the end of this period, there will be an event where each organisation will showcase their inclusion programs so that others can learn and grow from them too.

How Can You Get Involved?

To learn more about the current initiatives of the Active Inclusion Program (AIP), the best starting point is to join our Community of Practice. This will allow you to learn, grow, and share your experiences with inclusion.

What is a Community of Practice?

A Community of Practice (CoP) is a concept that originated in the field of social learning and organisational theory. It refers to a group of people who share a common interest, or expertise and who come together to learn from one another, share knowledge, and develop their skills in a collaborative and social environment.
